Should I attempt to produce my own web videos?

FAQ: Should I attempt to produce my own web videos?

ANSWER: Unless you are a geeky kind of do it yourself person, I think you are setting yourself up for failure, which is a shame because there are plenty of people who can help with video, especially web videos.

It’s my experience that working on videos, to publish on your website, is a serious enough undertaking. Just to get yourself together, to come across as sincere and authentic and knowledgeable and likable is a big enough job in and of itself. But when you throw in the technology on top of that and think, well, I’ll just get my own video equipment… I’ll set up somewhere… I’ll get things set up… Unless you’re a geeky kind of do it yourself person, I think you’re setting yourself up for failure, which is a shame because there are plenty of people that can help with video, especially web videos.

You can do a lot of web videos in one setting, so that it’s not terribly expensive. And then, there are also coaches. There are people to actually help you present and come across in a clearer, more authentic way.

Considering the power of video, and considering that we’re all rushing toward this audio video web, I think it’s something to take pretty seriously and get good at as quickly as you can. ~ Kenneth Greenberg :: Video Webmaster
